Horseshoe Bend is the name for a horseshoe-shaped meander of the Colorado River located near Page, AZ. It is just a short drive from Page (and the Glen Canyon Dam/Lake Powell), approximately 4 miles / a little over 6 km. To reach the viewpoint, you’ll have to take a short hike, the sign says it is half a mile, in total it is about a mile to cover. There is one option to sit down on a stone bench in the shade of a roof halfway down to the viewpoint, the rest is sand, sandstone and heat, so bring water and a hat.
There is no railing either, and warning signs tell you to be careful since there is a steep and abrupt 300 meter drop down to the river. I am weary of heights, so I approached the rim very slowly and carefully, as did most of the people we met.
Another nice option to see this is by boat, as did the folks on this picture.
The viewpoint is free of charge, so if you are in Page, this really is a must-do.
